Ferrari took 4 cars and 4 drivers to Belgium, Farina, Trintignant, Frère and Schell. Schell participated in practice and could replace Trintignant as there were doubts whether he would be physically fit to participate in the event, so much so that he missed the first day of testing. If he was faster, he would take over #4, which did not materialize and Schell remained as a reserve. The fourth car was an old Model 625, which was only used in practice. It was speculated that the #8 would be for Taruffi, but he did not attend the event (In Belgium, the cars were given an odd number in practice and only received the final numbers on the eve of the race, so the #8 was never used) . The entry system was by invitation, and Amedée Gordini was asked to fill in #16 and #18 with Manzon and Bayol, but as the old T16s would have no chance at Spa, he declined the invitation. The #30, 32 and 34 were to be occupied by Lancia, with Ascari, Villoresi and Castellotti. With Ascari’s death shortly before the event in private tests, and also due to financial problems, the team withdrew from competition, so only Castellotti competed after convincing the team to give him a car, as a way of honoring Ascari. He ended up going to the event with two cars and a reserve driver, Roberto Piodi.

To avoid the printing of pirated programs, a system was used in which the cars participated in practice using an alternative numbering, and the definitive numbering was done only on the eve of the race. Claes had engine problems and therefore did not qualify.
