Basle was disqualified at the start of the 1905 Vanderbilt Cup because of spare parts not exclusively originating from the same country as his Mercedes car. As in 1904 the crowd invaded the track preventing the remaining running cars to finish the race. The cars who were still running were also placed in the results as finishers.
