| Júlio de Moraes, who was not classified, was invited for the race to fill the grid, but he didn’t think the Automobile Club’s sports committee’s decision to invite him was correct. Henrique Ré was called in to take his place. The second desertion was that of Benedicto Lopes, for health reasons. Having contracted a severe case of the flu, the driver’s participation was vetoed by doctors. His position on the grid was replaced by French driver Hellé Nice, who, without any justification, was promoted from the penultimate to the first row, thanks to the benevolence of the sports committee. His place was taken by Henrique Casini, who had the best time among those who were not classified. Also for health reasons, the Portuguese driver Almeida Araújo was left out, having suffered a knee problem while exercising on the ship that brought him to Rio de Janeiro. In his place, Felippe Rueda, a Spaniard based in Rio de Janeiro, was called, due to the automatic classification criteria for foreigners, another absurd decision by the sports commission. Finally, on Sunday, Joaquim Sant’Anna withdrew. The only unclassified car on the track was that of Segadas Vianna, who was invited to form the grid. | |||||||
