Hamilton was initially entered, but replaced by Frère in #14 HWM, as was #34 Maserati, with Taruffi replaced by Lang. Bira withdrew from participating with #12 Connaught, and was replaced by Wacker with his Gordini, who ended up receiving #44. After these initial changes, Ascari who would use #22 ended up using #46.
