Although Moss was entered by Owen, the entire staff was from BRP, as the car had been leased to this team. Only an official factory mechanic was assigned to help with the adjustments. Chassis #2511 was taken only to participate in practice, but ended up being entered for Flockhart, so that BRM would have a complete team. Behra, initially entered with #22, set his best time in practice using Gendebien’s car, so, to avoid a worse starting position, they ended up changing numbers during the grid formation, he took #30 and left #22 to Gendebien. Herrmann, registered with #42 Maserati, only participated in the first practice session, but feeling the car’s lack of competitiveness, withdrew and was replaced by de Beaufort.
