Ferrari had 3 entries but ended up declining the last one, so #26 was left vacant. Cliff Allison had a serious accident in practice, and his car could not be repaired for the race. So he rented a car from Scuderia Centro Sud, which had been sent to Portugal probably for Troy Ruttman, who never attended the event and was therefore available. The same happened with de Filipps, who ended up using the other car from Scuderia Centro Sud, which would be entered by local driver Casimiro de Oliveira, who only participated in a few practice sessions and withdrew from the event.
